Crossing the Bridge: The Quiet Power of Becoming

Today I crossed the bridge.

Not a metaphor I crafted for dramatic effect. Not a moment of fireworks or fanfare. Just a quiet, steady crossing over the water that had long divided who I used to be from who I truly am.
I’ve been walking toward this bridge for over 30 years. Maybe longer. And if you’ve known me—really known me—you’ve seen it. Every book I read, every modality I trained in, every conversation, every tear, every insight… all of it was part of the preparation. Not to become someone else, but to become me.
But this wasn’t the only bridge. I’ve crossed many over the years. Some were small and shaky, swaying in the wind of uncertainty. Others were wide and solid, built from the foundations of deep insight, hard-earned wisdom, and the love I dared to give myself. Each bridge was a moment of choice. A chance I took on me.
And when I finally stepped onto this one, the water below didn’t roar or threaten. It whispered. It welcomed me. It washed away the remnants of fear, the hesitation, the belief that I needed to be more, do more, prove more before I could arrive.
I felt like I was coming home.
Not to a place, but to a presence. To myself. And it wasn’t a decision. It wasn’t a goal. It was a moment when my unconscious mind whispered, “Now.” When everything I’ve lived—every experience, every emotion, every lesson—crystallised around me. Not to weigh me down, but to illuminate me. To show me the many facets of who I am, all shining together, contributing to the light that now radiates from within.
This is what true transformation feels like.
It doesn’t happen after a “big bang” moment. It’s not a single leap into the unknown. It’s a long series of crossings. A rhythm of becoming. A layering of truths and trials and tenderness until one day, you realise—you’ve arrived. Not at a destination, but at yourself.
And the bridges? They’re not obstacles. They’re invitations. Each one asks, “Will you take the chance on you?” And when you do, when you step forward, you realise something profound:
You’ve been you all along. The only difference is… now you can see.
